Since they couldn’t solve the problem on their own, they decided to ask a monkey for help. The monkey was known as the wisest and cleverest animal in the forest, so the rats thought he would be fair. They asked the monkey to divide the bread equally between them.

The monkey agreed and promised to help. But instead of dividing the bread equally, the monkey cut one piece bigger than the other. To fix this, the monkey took a bite from the bigger piece, but then the other piece became larger. So, he took a bite from another one too. The monkey kept doing this—taking small bites from both sides to make them equal.

As the monkey ate more and more, the bread kept getting smaller. The two rats soon realized what was happening. They had trusted the monkey, but now they were losing all their bread. অবশেষে, দুই ইঁদুর বুঝতে পারল যে বানর তাদের ঠকাচ্ছে। তারা বানরকে অনুরোধ করল যেন সে থামে এবং যা বাকি আছে তা তাদের দিয়ে দেয়। কিন্তু চালাক বানর বলল, এখন বাকি রুটির অংশ তার মজুরি হিসেবে সে নিবে।
