Once there lived a happy cobbler in a town. He passed his days working and singing from morning till night. A rich neighbour of his was a banker. One day, the banker asked the cobbler, “How much do you earn a year?”
The cobbler laughed and said, “I never think in that way. I live from hand to mouth, but I am happy.” The banker said that he wanted to remove his want. He gave the cobbler a thousand rupees. The cobbler went home and buried the money in the earth.
But alas! He buried his happiness with it, too. He thought and thought about it. As a result, he could not enjoy a sound sleep. At last, the cobbler returned the money to the banker. Then he was able to enjoy a sound sleep.
Moral: Money can not bring happiness.

আমি দিন এনে দিন খাই, কিন্তু আমি সুখী।” দয়া বোধ করে ব্যাংকার তাকে প্রয়োজনে সাহায্যের জন্য দশ হাজার টাকা দিলেন। মুচি বিস্ময়ের সাথে তার কাছ থেকে টাকা নিল। তারপর সে তার কুঁড়েঘরে টাকা লুকিয়ে রাখল। কিন্তু সেই রাতে সে ঘুমাতে পারল না, এই ভেবে যে কেউ টাকা চুরি করে নিতে পারে।
দিন দিন সে তার শান্তি ও আনন্দ হারিয়ে ফেলল। অবশেষে সে বুঝতে পারল যে টাকা তার সুখ কেড়ে নিয়েছে। তাই সে ব্যাংকারের কাছে টাকা ফিরিয়ে দিল এবং আবার শান্তিপূর্ণ ও সুখীভাবে জীবনযাপন করতে শুরু করল।

A Happy Cobbler Story
Once there lived a happy cobbler in a town. He worked hard and sang from morning till night. Though he earned little, he was satisfied with his simple life. A rich banker lived next to him. One day, the banker asked, “How much do you earn in a year?”
The cobbler replied with a smile, “I earn enough to live, and I am happy.”The banker thought he was poor and gave him fifty thousand taka to remove his suffering. The cobbler accepted the money and hid it in his hut.
But soon he became worried about its safety. He could not sleep at night thinking that thieves might steal it. Gradually, he lost his peace of mind. At last, he returned the money to the banker and felt happy again.

এই গল্পটি আমাদের শেখায় যে টাকা সুখ আনতে পারে না। অনেকেই মনে করেন, বেশি অর্থ থাকলেই জীবন আনন্দময় হয়। কিন্তু প্রকৃত সুখ নির্ভর করে সন্তুষ্টি ও মানসিক শান্তির উপর। মুচি অল্প আয়ে সন্তুষ্ট থাকায় সে সুখী ছিল। কিন্তু অতিরিক্ত টাকার চিন্তা তার জীবনে অশান্তি নিয়ে আসে। তাই এই গল্পের মাধ্যমে আমরা বুঝতে পারি, সত্যিকারের সুখ ধন-সম্পদে নয়, বরং সন্তুষ্ট জীবনেই নিহিত।
