Once there was a farmer who lived in a village. He had a special goose that laid a golden egg every day. The farmer sold the eggs and soon became rich. But he was not satisfied. He wanted to be richer—faster.
One day, he thought, If the goose lays golden eggs, then maybe many more eggs are inside her. Out of greed, he decided to cut the goose open and take all the eggs at once. But when he did that, he found nothing inside. The goose died, and he lost the only source of his golden eggs.
The farmer became very sad. He realized that because of his greed, he lost everything.

একবার একটা গ্রামে এক কৃষক বাস করতেন। তার একটি বিশেষ হাঁস ছিল যা প্রতিদিন একটি সোনার ডিম দেয়। কৃষক সেই ডিমগুলো বাজারে বিক্রি করতেন এবং খুব দ্রুত ধনী হয়ে উঠলেন। কিন্তু তার লোভ ছিল কমানো যায় না, সে আরও দ্রুত ধনী হতে চেয়েছিল।
একদিন সে ভাবলো, “যদি হাঁস সোনার ডিম দেয়, তাহলে হয়তো তার ভেতরে আরও অনেক ডিম আছে।” অত লোভে সে হাঁসের পেট কেটে সব ডিম একবারেই পেতে চাইল। কিন্তু পেট কেটে দেখলে কোনো ডিম ছিল না। হাঁস মারা গেল এবং তার সোনার ডিমের উৎস হারিয়ে গেল।
কৃষক খুব দুঃখ পেল। সে বুঝলো, তার লোভের কারণে সে সবকিছু হারিয়ে ফেলেছে।
