Once upon a time, there was a poor farmer who lived in a small village. He used to cut down trees in the nearby forest and sell the wood in the market to earn a living. One day, while at the market, he bought a goose.
The next morning, to his surprise, he found a golden egg next to the goose. The farmer was shocked and overjoyed! He quickly took the golden egg to the market and sold it for a lot of money.
From that day on, every morning, the goose laid a golden egg. The farmer sold the eggs and became richer each day. Soon, he didn’t need to cut down trees anymore. He started living a happy life with his wife and children.

However, his wife was not satisfied. She became greedy and wanted to get rich even faster. She thought, If this goose lays golden eggs, there must be more golden eggs inside it!” She came up with a terrible plan.
One day, while the farmer was away, the wife decided to kill the goose and take all the golden eggs at once. She took a knife and cut and open the goose belly. But to her shock, there were no golden eggs inside. The goose was gone, and now they had nothing.
When the farmer came back and saw what his wife had done, he was heartbroken. He said, Greed only brings trouble.

একদা, একটি ছোট গ্রামে একজন গরিব কৃষক বাস করতো। সে বন থেকে গাছ কেটে বাজারে কাঠ বিক্রি করত এবং এভাবেই তার সংসার চলত। একদিন, সে বাজারে গিয়ে একটি হাঁস কিনল।
পরদিন সকালে, কৃষক হাঁসটির পাশে একটি সোনার ডিম দেখতে পেল। কৃষক খুব অবাক হল এবং আনন্দে ভরে গেল! সে সোনার ডিমটি বাজারে বিক্রি করল এবং প্রচুর টাকা পেল।
তারপর থেকে, প্রতিদিন সকালে হাঁসটি একটি সোনার ডিম পাড়তে থাকল। কৃষক সেগুলো বিক্রি করে দিনে দিনে ধনী হয়ে গেল। সে আর গাছ কাটার প্রয়োজন মনে করলো না। সে তার স্ত্রী এবং সন্তানদের সাথে সুখে জীবন যাপন করতে শুরু করল।

একদিন, কৃষক বাড়িতে না থাকার সময়, তার স্ত্রী হাঁসটিকে মেরে সব সোনার ডিম একসাথে বের করার সিদ্ধান্ত নিল। সে একটি ছুরি নিয়ে হাঁসটির পেট কেটে ফেলল। কিন্তু হতাশ হয়ে দেখল, ভিতরে কোনো সোনার ডিম নেই। হাঁসটি মারা গেল, এবং তারা আর কিছুই পেল না।
