একবার দুই বন্ধু ভ্রমণে বের হলো। পথে তাদের একটি জঙ্গলের মধ্য দিয়ে যেতে হলো। জঙ্গলের মধ্য দিয়ে যাওয়ার সময় তারা দেখতে পেল একটি ভালুক তাদের দিকে এগিয়ে আসছে। তাই তারা দুজনেই ভয় পেয়ে গেল। সাথে সাথেই একজন বন্ধু গাছে উঠে গেল।
অন্য বন্ধু গাছে উঠতে জানত না। সে অসহায় বোধ করল। হঠাৎ তার মনে পড়ল যে ভালুক মৃতদেহ স্পর্শ করে না। তাই সে মৃত মানুষের মতো মাটিতে শুয়ে পড়ল। ভালুক তার কাছে এসে তাকে স্পর্শ করল না এবং চলে গেল।
তারপর প্রথম বন্ধু গাছ থেকে নেমে এলো। সে দ্বিতীয় বন্ধুর কাছে গিয়ে বলল, “ভালুক তোমাকে কি বলেছে?” দ্বিতীয় বন্ধু উত্তর দিল, “ভালুক আমাকে উপদেশ দিয়েছে যে বিপদে যে বন্ধু তার বন্ধুকে একা ফেলে যায়, সেই মিথ্যা বন্ধুকে বিশ্বাস করো না।”

So, he fell on the ground like a dead person and stopped breathing. All of a sudden, the bear came near him, smelt his body, and thought him to be a dead man. So, without touching him, it went away. The friend who was in the tree saw everything.
Then he got down from the tree, went to his friend, and asked him, “Oh dear, what did the bear whisper in your ear?” In reply, the friend said, “The bear advised me not to trust a friend who leaves his friend alone in danger.”
