একবার দুই বন্ধু ভ্রমণে বেরোলো। পথে তাদের একটা জঙ্গলের মধ্য দিয়ে যেতে হলো। জঙ্গলের মধ্য দিয়ে যাওয়ার সময় তারা দেখতে পেলো একটি ভালুক তাদের দিকে এগিয়ে আসছে। তাই তারা দুজনেই ভয় পেয়ে গেল। সাথে সাথেই একজন বন্ধু গাছে উঠে গেল।

অন্য বন্ধু গাছে উঠতে জানতো না। সে অসহায় বোধ করলো। হঠাৎ তার মনে পড়লো যে ভালুক মৃতদেহ স্পর্শ করে না। তাই সে মৃত মানুষের মতো মাটিতে শুয়ে পড়লো। ভালুক তার কাছে এসে তাকে স্পর্শ করলো না এবং চলে গেল।

তারপর প্রথম বন্ধু গাছ থেকে নেমে এলো। সে দ্বিতীয় বন্ধুর কাছে গিয়ে বললো। “ভাল্লুক তোমাকে কি বলেছে?” দ্বিতীয় বন্ধু উত্তর দিল। “ভাল্লুক আমাকে উপদেশ দিয়েছে যে বিপদে তার বন্ধুকে একা ফেলে যাওয়া মিথ্যা বন্ধুকে বিশ্বাস করো না।”
