The judge was very wise. He called all the servants, but they denied the charge. Then the judge hit upon a plan to detect the real thief. He gave each of them a stick of the same length and told them to submit the sticks the following day. He told them that the stick of the real thief would increase by an inch.
Returning home, all the servants kept their sticks as they were, except the servant who actually stole the necklace. He shortened his stick by an inch. The next day, when all submitted their sticks before the judge, the real thief was easily detected. Then the thief was awarded his due punishment.
Moral: Truth always wins.

একদা এক ধনী লোকের বাড়ি থেকে একটা সোনার হার হারিয়ে গেল। সেই বাড়িতে অল্প কয়েকজন চাকর-বাকর কাজ করত। স্বভাবতই সন্দেহ করা হলো যে চাকর-বাকরদের একজন হারটি চুরি করেছে। ধনী লোকটি তাদের সকলকে জিজ্ঞাসাবাদ করলেন, কিন্তু কেউ স্বীকার করল না যে সে দোষী।
তখন ধনী লোকটি একটা ফন্দি আঁটলেন। তিনি সব চাকর-বাকরকে ডেকে পাঠালেন এবং তাদের প্রত্যেককে একটা করে লাঠি দিলেন। তিনি পরের দিন লাঠিগুলো জমা দিতে বললেন। তিনি তাদেরকে সতর্কও করে দিলেন যে চোরের লাঠিটি এক ইঞ্চি লম্বা হবে এবং এভাবে তিনি প্রকৃত চোরকে ধরতে পারবেন।
চাকরগুলো লাঠিগুলো নিয়ে গেল। চোরটি ভয় পেয়ে গেল। তার মনে হলো যে তার লাঠিটি বেড়ে যাবে এবং সে চোর বলে ধরা পড়বে। পরের দিন দেখা গেল যে চোরের লাঠিটি ছাড়া প্রতিটি লাঠিই সমান। চোরের লাঠিটি এক ইঞ্চি ছোট ছিল। এভাবে হারের চোরটি হাতে-নাতে ধরা পড়ল।
